This unit is the Doviello version of the strongest melee unit that dosen't have limits as to their numbers or duration. Note that it is initially stronger against melee units than the Maceman it replaces, and better at Tundra defense. Note that Trainer allows the upgrading of any Doviello Axeman to Battlemaster in its tile.
Civilopedia
A Battlemaster will quickly take command of any rag-tag group of warriors he finds himself in, organizing raiding bands from weaker Beastmen, and even training Axemen into more disciplined Battlemasters on the spot. Their leadership skills are often forgotten once battle is joined, however, as they enjoy the rush of combat as much as any Doviello warrior.
Strategy Text
Battlemasters will be even more powerful than macemen when first trained, for they start with the powerful shock promotion, though they do not get an additional 25% innate bonus, so don't let your foes live long enough to train up stronger than you.
